Beyond the Walls: Grace and Growth

Weekly Reading:

Day 1:

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:1-2, Numbers 24:17, Psalm 72:10-11, Isaiah 60:1-3

Questions:

  1. How does the eagerness of these "unlikely worshipers" (Gentiles) challenge your assumptions about who God draws to Himself and who is genuinely seeking Him?

  2. Are you currently in a season of actively "searching" for King Jesus, or are you passively waiting for something to happen in your faith journey? What does seeking Him look like for you today?

Day 2:

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:3-6, Micah 5:2, 2 Samuel 5:2:

Questions:

  1. How does the contrast between Herod's anxiety and Jerusalem's complacency, despite knowing the truth, challenge you to examine your own heart's immediate response when God's authority threatens your comfort or plans?

  2. Are there areas in your life where you might be "sitting by waiting for something to happen" in your worship or commitment, even though you intellectually "know the truth" about who Jesus is?

  3. Where might your "accomplishments" subtly become a barrier to true worship, rather than leading you into active submission to King Jesus?

Day 3:

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:7-8, Proverbs 21:2, Jeremiah 17:9-10

Questions:

  1. When you examine your own "ambition" or "busyness"—even for seemingly good things—does it sometimes distract from your relationship with Jesus? How can you re-center your life on Him?

  2. How does Herod's deceptive instruction to "search diligently" for the child challenge you to discern between outwardly religious actions and genuine, heartfelt seeking of Jesus?

Day 4:

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:9-11, Psalm 16:11, 1 Kings 10:1-2

Questions:

  1. What does the Magi's "exceedingly great joy" upon seeing the star again and finding Jesus reveal about the reward of persistent seeking, especially when compared to the anxiety of those who resist Him?

  2. When you "present gifts" of your time, talent, or treasure to God, are they offered with a heart of active worship, or do they feel like mere obligation? How can you cultivate more joyful giving?

Day 5:

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:12, Proverbs 3:5-6

Questions:

  1. How does God's use of a dream to redirect the Magi illustrate His diverse ways of guiding you, and what "unlikely" forms of divine guidance might you need to pay closer attention to in your own life?

  2. Like the Magi, are you willing to be "called away from worldly concerns" and change your direction when God's warning or leading contradicts your initial plans?

  3. What specific area of your life or worship currently feels "passive," and what deliberate choice can you make this week to move toward "true and active worship of King Jesus," regardless of what the world might expect?
