OUTLINE:

MAIN POINT: Because of God’s high view of the marriage covenant, followers of Jesus uphold marriage as an unbreakable sacred union.

I. The Establisher of Marriage v1-6

II. The Emissaries of Marriage v7-9

III. The Eunuchs from Marriage v10-12

Beyond the Walls (Grace and Growth)

Weekly Reading:

Day 1 — God’s Design for Marriage

Matthew 19:4–6

  1. Do I view marriage as a human contract that can be dissolved, or as a sacred, God-established union?

  2. How can I actively value and uphold the sanctity of marriage in my own mindset, regardless of my current relationship status?

  3. What is one practical way I can support, honor, or protect a marriage in my church community this week?

Day 2 — Releasing Guilt, Choosing Today

Matthew 19:3; Philippians 3:13–14

  1. Am I hyper-analyzing past relationship decisions or carrying shame that Christ calls me to lay down?

  2. How does knowing that Jesus welcomes me right now—without checking my marital status—change my perspective on my current walk with Him?

  3. What specific step can I take today to be faithful to Jesus in the exact relationship status I am in right now?

Day 3 — Hard Hearts and Human Sin

Matthew 19:7–8

  1. Where might a "hard heart" be showing up in my relationships, causing me to look for exit routes rather than grace and reconciliation?

  2. Do I tend to look for biblical "loopholes" to justify my choices rather than seeking God's original, ideal purpose?

  3. How can I cultivate a soft, teachable heart toward God and others when relationship conflicts arise?

Day 4 — Leaving and Cleaving

Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5

  1. Is there a relationship or loyalty in my life (parents, career, opinion of others) that I am placing above the covenant priority of my marriage?

  2. What does it look like in daily practice to truly "hold fast" or be unified with my spouse through life's pressures?

  3. If single, widowed, or divorced, how can I prioritize my core, unbreakable union with Christ above all other competing attachments?

Day 5 — The Gift and Mission of Singleness

Matthew 19:10–12

  1. Do I view singleness as an incomplete state, or as a valid, purposeful calling that can fully honor God’s Kingdom?

  2. If single, am I prioritizing my walk with Christ and His church above the ultimate pursuit of finding a spouse?

  3. How can our church family better embrace, include, and minister to single individuals without making them feel like second-class citizens?

Day 6 — Standing Against Abuse and Tearing Apart

Matthew 19:6; Romans 12:18

  1. Do I understand the vital difference between upholding the sacredness of marriage and wrongly using covenant language to justify abuse or harm?

  2. Am I creating a safe environment where hurting people, broken families, and those experiencing divorce or abuse feel loved, protected, and unshamed?

  3. How can I offer compassionate support to someone currently enduring the deep pain of a broken or struggling relationship?

Day 7 — Supporting Marriages Together as the Church

Ephesians 5:25–33; Ecclesiastes 4:9–10

  1. If married, am I actively pursuing my spouse—investing time and intentionality into our relationship—or simply coexisting?

  2. When a friend or church member complains about their spouse, do I feed the negativity or gently point them toward covenant faithfulness?

  3. What tangible act of service (such as babysitting, encouraging words, or prayer) can I offer this week to help strengthen a couple's marriage?
